  3. The desktop patterns supplied by Apple for color Macintoshes are somewhat gaudy and distracting.

  5. Tasteful Desktop will update the ”General Controls” control panel to give you a choice of eight desktop patterns which use dithering to create the appearance of subdued solid colors.

  7. Tasteful Desktop is meant to update the current version of General Controls only: version 7.1. However, if you have access to ResEdit you can update any version of the General control panel with the following procedure:

  9. Use Resedit to open Tasteful Desktop and General Controls. Select ppat# 0 from Tasteful Desktop; Copy; select General Controls and Paste.
